Man sells 26 years of his
life for $3,683.93
GLENDALE, AZ -- In a project spanning an entire year from
conception to
completion, Lloyd Garner–author of the novel Corpse of Freedom–has
auctioned off the first 26 years of his life for $3,683.93.
Over the year, he meticulously photographed, listed, and sold all
of his
possessions through eBay and Amazon. He even set aside 200 of his
most
sentimental items like fraternity mementos, college degree
certificates,
trophies, and photos, to include a numbered certificate of
authenticity
when they were purchased.
The project is documented at
www.LloydsExperiment.com
where you can read
feedback Lloyd has received, some of Lloyd’s journal entries, as
well as
view the full catalogue and purchase price of each item.
“For me personally, this project was a rite of passage,” Lloyd
says. “It
will serve me as a sobering reminder that as long as I’m
selfish, and I’m
not doing something positive for the people around me, or I’m
not having
an impact on the world I live in–I will die like a fart in the
wind, that
no one ever gave a damn about.”
So what’s next for the man who owns nothing?
“Should I ride off into the sunset? Maybe I’ll continue to
tour my dead
friend across the world spreading corpse awareness and preaching
the
gospel of freedom? Or maybe I’ll destroy Samoa Joe for the TNA
World
Heavyweight Championship? All I really know, is that I’m free to
do
anything.”

West neighborhood.
GLENDALE, Ariz.
– Neighbors living in the Roadrunner Estates West neighborhood
have new streetscape improvements, along the south side of
Mountain View Road from 57th to 59th avenues. Thanks to a
neighborhood grant for the upgrades, totaling $57,751 awarded by
the Citizen’s Advisory Commission on Neighborhoods, the
residents in this area have improved their neighborhood.
Barrel District Councilmember Yvonne
Knaack presented neighborhood leaders with a plaque to thank
them for participating in the process to improve their
neighborhood at a brief dedication ceremony on Thursday, June 5.
The Roadrunner Estates West
Neighborhood lists 35 households in the property, which is more
than 30 years old. The boundaries are between Mountain View Road
on the north, and Purdue on the south between 57th Avenue and
58th Drive.
The Neighborhood Partnership Office
administers a grant program that funds revitalization projects
twice a year to assist neighborhoods more than 15 years old.
Citizen participation and involvement are key components of the
program.

Grants Program, call 623/930-2868.

Utopia Road
Recorder Consort Annual Holiday Concert
At The Velma Teague Library Downtown Glendale
Photos and story
Ed Sharpe Glendale Daily Planet
Once again it was time for the Utopia
Road Recorder Consort annual holiday concert at the Velma Teague
Branch of the Glendale Public Library on Thursday night
12-13-2007.
It was wonderful to walk in after
walking in the crisp evening air and enjoying beautiful lights
in the park and have the sweet sounds of Renaissance
styled Christmas music reach your ears...

Linda Rising Husband
Karl Rehmer Perform with Bass Recorders
Recorders have been popular instruments since
the 10th century in Europe. By 1750, recorders were replaced in
orchestras by more powerful transverse flutes. Recorders have seen a
surge in popularity since the early 1900s because they are relatively
easy to play.
Director Linda Rising says that: "The group is made up of Renaissance
wannabes who gather to play and sing just for fun and perform a few
times each year. They will play a variety of music from medieval to
contemporary, played on replica instruments from the 15th and 16th
centuries."
Group director Linda Rising tells how they got started...
"Utopia Road Recorder Consort has been playing together for over
10 years. We started as a group of people who worked at what was at
the time, AG Communication Systems, on Utopia Road. We are all
connected to software development and music is just for fun. We all
have some background in music: Karen was a flute player, Anne had
piano and sings in her church choir, Karl played the trumpet, and Rick
the guitar. "
She explains her personal background: "I've
been playing recorder the longest and I was the one who infected the
rest of the group! I've had piano and voice and two years of
music theory -- thinking at one time I would get a degree in music,
but ending up with a Ph.D. in computer science instead."
This dynamic group turns up all over the valley and has played
at Bookmans, Borders, churches, libraries, and schools. A
program targeting young people in grade schools to get them interested
in music is called called "Recorders Through the Ages"
.
Linda explains the advantages of starting out on a recorder: "The
recorder is a great instrument to play for fun, because you can become
pretty good without the intensive work of other "real"
instruments. The recorder is the Renaissance and early Baroque
precursor of the flute. It is softer (even the smaller instruments)
and easy to play. Good plastic instruments are available so it is a
good way for school children to learn about music."

SECOND DEBUT
BACK SELLING ANTIQUES IN CATLIN COURT!
We
started Second Debut in 1987 after I retired for Trans World
Airlines. We retired from Second Debut in 2001 and have had a
wonderful busy retirement traveling, enjoying our grandchildren
and doing many other things. During this period of retirement I
contacted both prostate and lung cancer and am now a survivor of
both. Inez and I give much of our time helping others with
cancer, particularly prostate cancer.
Decided to go back in the
antique and collectible business as we both missed the fun of
buying and selling antiques and the fun of meeting and talking our
customers. We try to run our store like an old Country Store
where you can come in, sit down and we talk about any subject,
including politics. We will be again selling antiques,
collectibles, a little of this and a little of that, so come by
and we can at least chat.
Am 77 years old, but am not
willing to sit down and wait for the call from above. We
both plan on an exciting future, as we fully realize that you only
have one day at a time and should enjoy each day as if it is your
last.
Welcome
back Max and Inez!
