City of Glendale Statement Regarding Coyotes Ownership Situation
February 1, 2013

The city and the current owner of the Coyotes, the National Hockey League, will continue to work together on a solution that is in the best interest of Glendale and our citizens. The next step involves seeking direction from the City Council to determine how to move forward with this process. The arena was built to serve as a catalyst for the economic growth that has occurred in Glendale’s Sport & Entertainment District, and its success remains a priority for the city.

Background information:
At the Nov. 27, 2012 meeting, the Glendale City Council approved a revised 20-year agreement to keep the National Hockey League (NHL) Coyotes playing in Glendale at the city-owned Jobing.com Arena. The Council’s action authorized Glendale to enter into an arena lease and management agreement with Arizona Hockey Arena Partners and Arizona Hockey Partners, a prospective owner of the Coyotes franchise with Greg Jamison as manager. For the past three years, the city has been actively working with the National Hockey League and potential buyers of the Coyotes to structure a deal that would keep the team in Glendale for the long term. Copies of the revised agreement as well as financial studies and other business analysis reports can be found below.
