Glendale Daily Planet --  Today shortly before noon, Bitzee Mama's, a famous downtown Glendale restaurant  located at   7023 N 58th Avenue across from Murphy Park was robbed.  $220 dollars were taken in this mid afternoon heist.

Patricia Ryan, the owner, tells us "The suspect was tall, thin, Caucasian, face with pock marks from past acne  and cleanly dressed in a long green shirt. Ryan continued:
"At approximately 11:40 he came in looking for a bottle of water and was at the counter next to the register.  When the register was opened he dropped the water and grabbed all the 20 dollar bills."  Whimsically she adds... "He even dropped his $2!"

Lulu and another restaurant employee chased down the ally after the  thief who joined another person that was driving a navy blue Mustang with a temporary paper plate.

Patricia Ryan told us, the officers that interviewed her after the robbery said this suspect was pulling these same stunts in Peoria... even with  the same blue Mustang with temporary plate.

Glendale Restaurant Robber at Large! 11-28-2007

Police Seek Robbery Suspect

GLENDALE, Ariz. – The Glendale Police Department is asking for help in identifying a man who is responsible for robbing several west valley restaurants in recent weeks.

The suspect is an Hispanic male in his mid-thirties, with dark brown hair and brown eyes. He is about 5 feet 9 inches tall, and weighs about 170 pounds. He has a mustache and goatee, as well as tattoos on both forearms.

Investigators believe this suspect is responsible for at least five robberies over the last two weeks. The robberies have all occurred at small restaurants and eateries in west Glendale. The suspect typically enters the store, asks for change, and then robs the cashier using a black handgun. The suspect may have fled some robberies in a small red car, possibly a Saturn.

Anyone with information about this suspect is asked to call the Glendale Police at 623-930-3000 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.

Police Seek “Person of Interest” in a Recent Homicide

GLENDALE, Ariz. – The Glendale Police Department is looking for a subject who was identified as being involved in a recent murder. The subject is Frederick Welch, a 19 year-old black male. He sometimes spells his name as “Freddrick.” He also goes by “Freddy” and the nickname “Freaky.”

On August 29th, two subjects went to the apartment of Antwan Pierce (b/m 29 years of age), located in the 6800 block of north 67th Avenue. An argument took place between Pierce and the two subjects. One of the subjects produced a gun and shot Pierce, killing him. Witnesses identified Freddy Welch as being one of the two subjects at Pierce’s door.

Investigators are not certain of the motive for this crime, though the argument appeared to have been about money. They do know that Welch and Pierce knew each other, and that this was not a random incident. Detective Roger Geisler would like to interview Welch to determine his involvement in the crime. “We know Welch was there, but there are two sides to every story,” Geisler said. “I’d like to hear Welch’s side of it.” Geisler believes Welch is still in the greater Phoenix area.

Freddy Welch is a 19 year-old black male. He is 5 feet 6 inches tall, with black hair and brown eyes. His hair was worn in a “dreadlock” style, but he may have cut or altered it. A photo of Welch is attached.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Glendale Police Department at 623-930-3000 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.

Two Children Located at Glendale  Apartment Complex

GLENDALE, Ariz.
Two children were located wandering and playing in an apartment complex near 55th Avenue and W. Camelback Road this afternoon. The mother was located about five hours later, and an investigation is underway to determine exactly what happened during that time.

Just before 5 p.m. this evening, Glendale police units were called to the Courts at Colter apartment complex, located at 5190 N. 55th Avenue. The manager had two small children in her care. She stated she made many efforts to identify the children and to locate a parent or guardian within the complex, but was unable to do so. She also stated the children were first seen playing unattended at about 2:30 p.m.

Officers made additional efforts to locate a parent or guardian but were also unsuccessful. The children, both of whom were wearing soiled diapers, were cleaned and fed. They were then taken to the Glendale police station and Child Protective Services was notified.

At about 7:30 p.m., a television journalist at an adjacent apartment complex saw a woman who appeared to be the mother. He put her in touch with a police officer, and she confirmed that she was the children’s mother. This woman was then brought to the police station to be interviewed about the circumstances.

The children are a two year-old Hispanic female and a three year-old Hispanic male. They were placed in the custody of Child Protective Services. The woman is a 24 year-old Hispanic woman. Ironically, she lives in the complex at 5190 N. 55th Avenue. The woman has not been arrested and the case remains under investigation.

update

aAs of of 10:20 pm on November 1st, our interview with the mother of the two children from 5190 N. 55 Ave is complete.

It is our intention to submit our case to the City Prosecutor seeking two counts of Child Neglect against the mother.

The mother was released, pending the outcome of the prosecutorial review.

The children are in the custody of Child Protective Services.

The suspect (mother) is Jacqueline Patterson, 24, of Glendale.  As noted last night, she lives in the apartment complex where the children were found.

By the way, the press release states she was located in an adjacent complex.  That is incorrect.  All the events took place in the same complex at 5190 N. 55th Avenue.

The children are now considered juvenile victims of child neglect.  For this reason, their names will not be released.

Amber Alert Video

GLENDALE, Ariz. – Glendale police investigators have obtained video of the suspect abandoning the Ford Expedition during the August 10th Amber Alert.  They are releasing the video in the hope that someone will be able to identify the suspect.  The video shows the suspect walking away from the truck and wiping his face with some type of cloth.

On August 10th, at about 3:30 pm, the suspect stole the De La Paz family’s Ford Expedition by jumping into it while it was running and then driving away.  Twenty month-old Betzaday De La Paz was still in her car seat at the time.  The theft occurred near 47th Avenue and Bethany Home Road.  The suspect abandoned the truck near 63rd and Clarendon Avenues in Phoenix.  Betzaday was found, unharmed, by the Phoenix Fire Department at about 6:30 pm.

I.D. technicians processed the vehicle and did obtain both latent prints and DNA evidence.  They are searching various databases for possible matches, but have not yet found any.  Lead detective Scott Walker believes the suspect may live in the area where the truck was abandoned.           “There is a canal in that neighborhood, which doesn’t make sense if you’re trying to escape,” Walker said. “I think he may have gone to a place where he felt comfortable.”
