"Pieces of Life Puzzle Project" Presentation of Money
to St. Mary's Food Bank Saturday Night at 6PM 2008

Annette Terhorst from Peaces of Life  tells us:  "It started with a desire to bring the local business owners together to work for a worthwhile goal.  I had heard that the food banks were really suffering especially this year.  Some of them were even closing in the valley.  Bingo.....found the need.  I  LOVE puzzles anyway, so I thought why not incorporate each business as a vital PIECE  of this giant puzzle."

She continues: "I then explored each shop and spent time with the owners to explain the 'SPIRIT OF GIVING'  project. There was an overwhelming response to be involved. It was very rewarding and a lot of fun! The staff at ST. Mary's food bank were so gracious!  Thank you to everyone!"

And.... now..... the  totals of the Glitters event and the puzzled effort.

Ernesto Ortiz from St Mary's Food bank gave us the totals: Spirit of Giving:

Spirit of Giving:

Puzzle:  $1082.00
Collection Jug:  $265.11

Total: 1,338.11

Food donated:  757 lbs.

This is wonderful considering:

 1lb of food=1 meal and 1 dollar=7 meals

A new Idea! A  giant puzzle during Glendale Glitters "SPIRIT OF GIVING' weekend, December 19th and 20th.

The puzzle pieces are made from wood that are laser engraved with individual downtown shop information. The puzzle pieces are approximately 18 to 24 inches in width. Our goal is to get 100 puzzle pieces made that will, once assembled, form the largest jigsaw puzzle in Arizona.

There was an  engraved box to place  tax deductible donation in.  This was our chance to help out those less fortunate during these troubled economic times. There were other shops accepting donations for the food bank as well.

Onlookers watched business owners from historic Catlin Court and Old Town, who placed their giant puzzle piece  at the west side of the Velma Teague Library in Murphy Park  Friday evening December 19th.

The puzzle was  on display both Friday and Saturday night  6-10pm during Glendale Glitters "SPIRIT OF GIVING'  event for residents and visitors to enjoy. After the weekend event, the individual puzzle pieces will be returned to the participating businesses for permanent display in each shop.

The Glendale Visitor Center has a puzzle piece also!  "We are very excited to be a part of the downtown puzzle project. This is a great example of the unique events and activities taking place in Historic Downtown Glendale. said Lorraine Pino, Tourism Manager at Glendale Office of Tourism & Visitor Center.
