A VIP night was Monday, December 20th at 5:30 p.m. Pat McMahon performed the ceremonial first smash with Vice Mayor Steve Frate from the City of Glendale was in attendance along with local community members enjoying a preview of the new restaurant and the burgerlisious culinary offerings. Go check out YOUR Smashburger at  5870 W. Thunderbird Road Ave., Suite A4

Serious burger fans of Glendale take note.  There is a new restaurant that offers one of America's most popular entrees, the hamburger.  The new 2,100 square foot Glendale location is located at 5870 W. Thunderbird Road Ave., Suite A4.  Monday evening the new restaurant held a VIP night for friends and family and to give the new crew a chance for a run though before opening day on Tuesday, December 21.  You probably may already about Smashburger.  If you follow the various burger hunts, Smashburger gets pretty high marks by reviewers.  Glendale joins Avondale, Phoenix and Tempe, cities that currently have a Smashburger Restaurant.  The search for the perfect burger may hopefully never end, as it can be an enjoyable journey.  A half-pound mushroom and Swiss burger, is $6.99, Smashfries are $1.99.

"The Franchisee of the Year Award identifies the franchise group that exemplifies excellence in all areas.  Franchisee of the Year Award winners demonstrate a drive for success, passion for the brand, extraordinary customer service and attention to detail. This year’s recipient is Sun West Burger’s Dave Doty, Chuck Riske, Robin Yoshimura and Kurt Riske of Phoenix.  Sun West operates four Phoenix-area stores."

Smashfries have received positive reviews also.  Olive oil, garlic, rosemary and other herbs give these fries something a little extra.  "Smashburger combines the qualities of fast food with the quality aspects of an upscale burger or better burger" Dave Doty commented when asked the about the Smashburger, burger.

Open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. everyday.  During the holiday season, the restaurant will be closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas.

Glendale Vice Mayor, Steve Frate, commented what he thought about two new businesses opening in the Safeway Plaza.  "I'm pleased to see new business open which give me hope that the economy is being to turn around.  I am really proud Smashburger choose Glendale, Sahuaro District, which I represent, for a location."  Just across from new the Smashburger, there is a Dunkin Dounuts about to open.

A bit about Smashburger

SunWest Burgers is the Franchisee of Smashburger for Maricopa County. They are a Founding Club franchisee member and part owner in the overall company developing the Smashburger brand.

SunWest Burgers principals--David Doty, Chuck Riske and Robin Yoshimura—collectively bring over 40 years of restaurant industry experience to smashburger. Last year, they signed a 30-unit development agreement with Smashburger to develop units in Maricopa County over the next seven years. They state "Our goal at Smashburger is to become every city’s favorite Burger place."

Named for the cooking method, Smashburgers are either a one-third or half-pound ball of 100-percent fresh—not frozen—certified Angus beef smashed on a flat grill to sear in superior juicy flavor.

To further the “better burger” experience, Smashburgers are served on a toasted artisan bun and topped with a selection of real cheeses, the freshest produce, and distinctive toppings including haystack onions, guacamole or even a fried egg.

Smashburger is known for its savory burgers, but the restaurant also serves up delicious Smashchicken sandwiches, Smashdogs, and Smashsalads, with sides like veggie fries and rosemary and garlic–seasoned Smashfries.

Burger lovers can pair their meals with Häagen-Dazs shakes, root beer floats, beer and wine. Smashburger’s menu features a special Arizona Smashburger made with Arizona residents in mind.

The Arizona Smashburger starts with a one-third or half-pound 100-percent certified Angus beef burger topped with habanero cheese, guacamole, lettuce, tomato, onion, chipotle mayo and fresh jalapenos on a chipotle bun.

The menu also features the Arizona Devil Dog, the Arizona Cobb Salad -made with diced chicken breast, bacon, cheddar cheese, tomatoes, red onions, crisp romaine and iceberg lettuce, with spicy chipotle sauce and topped with guacamole and fresh jalapenos—and a Cactus Vanilla Shake made with Häagen-Dazs ice cream.

Tom Ryan, formally of Pizza Hut and McDonalds, developed the Smashburger process.  A Smashburgers is made with top quality Angus beef (never frozen), a squirt of butter while on the grill, then the patty is covered with wax paper and then it is "smashed" or pressed to sear in the flavor for a count of ten.  This is done at high temperatures to sear the meat.  "Fresh, never frozen 100% certified Angus beef smashed, seared and seasoned on the grill."
