Donate a New Teddy Bear!
Another important part of the event was the Teddy Bear and Toy Drive to benefit the Glendale Fire Department, the Glendale Crisis Response Team. The Visitor Center  accepted teddy bears that were new and in original factory packaging.

The teddy bears will be used for the Trauma Teddy program. The bears are given to young children who have been involved or witnessed a traumatic event to help comfort them as only a snuggly teddy bear can do.

Lorraine Pino (L), Tourism Manager at Glendale Office of Tourism & Visitor Center was pleased with the outcome. she stated "The Teddy Bear Drive was a huge success bringing in nearly 400 plush bears to benefit the Glendale Fire Dept. Trauma Teddy Program, Southwest Ambulance and other charities benefiting children valley wide." She continued,  "We look forward to this Beary special event every year! It is a fun filled day for our residents and visitors. The generosity of our guests providing Teddy Bears will truly be a benefit to our community and children's programs."

Friendly Bears Once Again Invade Downtown Glendale AZ

Lorraine Pino, Tourism Manager, with just a few of the 'mountain' of bears that were donated!

The Glendale Visitor Center along with the Historic Downtown businesses celebrated National Teddy Bear Day with the 4th Annual Teddy Bear Day event on Sept 6. Nearly 1,800 visitors attended the celebration and enjoyed a variety of entertainment, make and take arts and crafts and activities. Visitors were encouraged to start the day at the visitor center to pick up the event information and take a spin on the prize wheel.

The first 500 visitors received a gift bag. An important component of the event was the Teddy Bear, toy and diaper drive to benefit the Glendale Fire Dept., Crisis Response Team Trauma Teddy Program and the West Valley Child Crisis Center.

Hundreds of plush animals, toys and diapers were donated by event goers. One family brought in 3 dozen plush bears which were purchased benefiting St. Judes and in turn will benefit the Teddy Bear Charities.  The twist is it helped a charity when the donor purchased them and then again helped another charity when they donated them!

Teddy Bear Day is one of the signature promotions in the Glendale Office of Tourism 12 Months of Endless Fun campaign which debuted in June.

"We are thrilled to bring a variety of fun events and activities to our residents and visitors, while showcasing our unique downtown experience," said Lorraine Pino, Tourism Manager.

Also collected for The West Valley Crisis Center was  new clothing for ages newborn to 12 years old and packages of diapers.
