By Bette Sharpe Glendale Daily Planet

Wednesday, June 13 the Glendale Fire Department celebrated its 100th Anniversary with Governor Jan Brewer, local dignitaries, firefighters, friends and family.  The Fire Department’s Centennial Ceremony, was complete with posting of colors, invocation, speeches from the Governor and fire chief as well as the display of historical items for a time capsule and cake.  What is a celebration without cake.

Assistant Fire Chief Higgins and Patrick Hourihan.  Patrick Hourihan was one of the principal members of The Centennial Committee.  The committee was led by Assistant Chief Jim Higgins and made up of 20 sworn and non-sworn Glendale Fire Personnel.  The committee's task was to organize the 100th year celebration and commemorate the event by making lasting symbols for the next 100 years.

Patrick designed and made the artwork.  There are two much larger pieces.  One of the larger works is hanging in the Glendale Fire Department's Administration building.  One of the smaller badges will hang in each of the Glendale Fire stations.  The artwork was well received.  Patrick Hourihan said, "every firefighter wanted one."
