AZ FIRE DEPARTMENT CELEBRATES 100TH ANNIVERSARY

Wednesday,
June 13 the Glendale Fire Department celebrated its 100th
Anniversary with Governor Jan Brewer,
local dignitaries, firefighters, friends and family.
The Fire Department’s Centennial Ceremony, was complete
with posting of colors, invocation, speeches from the Governor and
fire chief as well as the display of historical items for a time
capsule and cake. What
is a celebration without cake.
Two
Glendale Firefighters were recognized for their efforts, Patrick
Hourihan and Jeremy Krossman.

Mayor and City Council were each presented with a commiserative
badge and coin.

Assistant
Fire Chief Higgins and Patrick Hourihan.
Patrick Hourihan was one of the principal members of The Centennial Committee.
The committee was led by Assistant Chief Jim Higgins and made
up of 20 sworn and non-sworn Glendale Fire Personnel.
The committee's task was to organize the 100th year
celebration and commemorate the event by making lasting symbols for
the next 100 years.
Patrick designed and made
the artwork. There are
two much larger pieces. One
of the larger works is hanging in the Glendale Fire Department's
Administration building. One
of the smaller badges will hang in each of the Glendale Fire
stations. The artwork
was well received. Patrick
Hourihan said, "every firefighter wanted one."

Firefighters Joe Hester,
Randy Rodriquez and Jeremy Krossman spoke about the thousands of
hours Glendale Firefighters, as volunteers, give back to the
community in their numerous charity works.
One particular effort is the firefighters help to "end
the hurt of hunger", Randy Rodriquez said was starting a food
bank. This food bank
gave out three tons of food in nine days.
One in four children, nationally, suffers from food
insufficiency.
