Michael Phelps has lunch with a group of McDonald’s Champion Kids - VIDEO HERE

[18-Aug-2008] Shortly after winning eight-gold medals in one Olympics, swimmer Michael Phelps had lunch with a group of McDonald’s Champion Kids. During the meal – Phelps had a double cheeseburger and fries – the swimmer talked to the children about where they’re from and how it felt to win a record eight gold medals in one Olympics. More than 200 children, ages 6 to 14 from 40 countries, are participating in the program. Enjoy this McDonald's provided clip  of Phelps at a McDonald’s restaurant on the Olympic Green. About McDonald’s Champion Kids™

As part of McDonald’s commitment to children’s well-being, the McDonald’s Champion Kids program was created to inspire and engage young people worldwide in activities that encourage sport, fitness and fun while providing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for them to experience the Olympic Games first-hand.

Through the McDonald's Champion Kids program more than 200 kids, ages 6 to 14 from 40 countries, traveled to Beijing to see the Games, meet athletes, visit the Olympic Village and tour the wonders of China. Selection criteria were determined by each country and included elements such as physical, mental and verbal skills activities. Many of the kids will serve as correspondents reporting their stories and experiences back to their hometown media.

Six-time U.S. Olympic Gold Medalist swimmer Michael Phelps is the Global Ambassador for McDonald’s Champion Kids and two-time Olympic Gold Medalist diver Guo Jingjing is the Local Ambassador for the program in China.

About the McDonald's at the games:

As the Official Restaurant of the Olympic Games and the only branded sponsor feeding the athletes, McDonald’s opened four new restaurants for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
